November 13, 2025
Banaskantha: Ambaji, renowned as a holy pilgrimage site and Shaktipeeth in Banaskantha district, has now gained a unique identity not just for its religious significance, but also for the pure white marble extracted from its soil.
The Government of India has officially recognized marble from the Ambaji area with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, making Ambaji Marble a legally protected and globally recognized product. With this designation, the prestige of Ambaji Marble has increased, positioning it as a new symbol of Gujarat on the world map.
The registration of Ambaji Marble has been done in the name of the Ambaji Marbles Quarry and Factory Association, with key contributions from the Stone Artisan Park Training Institute (SAPTI), the Commissioner of Geology and Mining, and the Collector of Banaskantha.
District Collector Mihir Patel said that just as Shaktipeeth Ambaji has gained global recognition as a holy site, Ambaji Marble has now also earned a bright place on the world stage. He noted that Ambaji has become a symbol of natural wealth and industrial pride, alongside its spiritual significance. He congratulated the people of Banas and the Ambaji Marbles Quarry and Factory Association for this achievement.
Special Importance of Ambaji Marble
Marble from Ambaji is known for its milky white luster, durability, and natural beauty. It is used in religious sites, monuments, and magnificent buildings, including the Ambaji Temple, and stands as a testament to Gujarat’s natural beauty and traditional craftsmanship.
