Heavy Vehicles Permanently Banned on Narmada Maiya in Bharuch
November 15, 2025
Ankleshwar: The district administration has imposed a ban on the movement of heavy and super-heavy vehicles on the Narmada Maiya Bridge over the Narmada River, which connects Ankleshwar to Bharuch.
The Gujarat government had inaugurated the bridge in June 2021. The bridge was intended to help reduce traffic congestion on the busy Ahmedabad–Mumbai route, and initially, traffic flow remained smooth.
However, over time, the passage of large private vehicles, such as buses, trucks, and other heavy vehicles, particularly at night led to a significant increase in both minor and major accidents. Residents of Bharuch district raised concerns through videos and photographs, prompting the government to issue a notification on 4 November 2025, banning heavy and super-heavy vehicles from using the bridge.
Now, Bharuch District Magistrate Gaurang Makwana has announced that, until any further changes are made to the notification, all heavy and super-heavy vehicles will be permanently prohibited from crossing the Narmada Maiya Bridge. DeshGujarat
