ACB Gujarat Nabs UGVCL Junior Engineer in Rs 50,000 Bribe Trap

Patan: In a swift and successful operation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Patan on Saturday caught a Junior Engineer of Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited (UGVCL) red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.

The accused, Chintan Kumar Shaileshbhai Patel, serving as Junior Engineer at UGVCL’s Sami Sub-Division in Gujarat’s Patan district, was trapped following a complaint filed by an alert citizen. Patel, a Class-2 officer residing at Sanidhya Park, Waghodia Road, Vadodara, had allegedly demanded the bribe for providing an electricity connection to the complainant’s farm.

According to officials, the complainant approached Patan ACB after Patel demanded ₹50,000 to process the application. Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant registered a detailed complaint, upon which ACB formed a trap team.

On 16 November 2025, the trap was executed at the UGVCL Sami Sub-Division office. During the operation, the accused reportedly engaged in a deliberate conversation with the complainant before accepting the marked currency. ACB officers immediately apprehended Patel and recovered the entire bribe amount of ₹50,000 from his possession.

Officials confirmed that the accused has been detained and further legal action is underway.

The operation was led by Trapping Officer M. J. Chaudhary, Police Inspector, ACB Post Patan, under the supervision of  K. H. Gohil, Assistant Director, ACB Border Unit, Bhuj. DeshGujarat
