Arvalli: A tragic incident occurred near Modasa town in Aravalli district early this morning when an ambulance caught fire, killing a newborn, a doctor, and two others, police said. Three others were rescued and rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to RD Dabhi, Deputy SP, Aravalli, “Last night, near Ransaiyyad Circle in Modasa, an ambulance traveling from Modasa toward Dhansura caught fire, killing four people inside. The three who were seated near the driver’s side were rescued and immediately sent for treatment. A team of doctors has arrived at the scene, and the postmortem will be carried out on the deceased. An FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team is investigating the cause of the fire.”
The ambulance was transferring a one-day-old infant who had been unwell since birth in Lunawada. It was en route from a Modasa-based hospital to a private facility in Ahmedabad for further treatment, accompanied by a medical team and the family of the child. The moving ambulance suddenly caught fire, killing the infant, his father Jignesh Mochi (38), Dr. Shantilal Rentia (30) of Himmatnagar, and nurse Bhuriben Manat (23) of Aravalli. Three others—the ambulance driver and two relatives of Mochi—suffered burn injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.
CCTV footage released by police shows the ambulance slowing near a petrol pump after the driver noticed flames at the rear. While the driver and two relatives in the front seats escaped with injuries, the infant, his father, the doctor, and the nurse at the back of the vehicle were tragically charred to death. DeshGujarat
