Passenger from Bangkok caught with hydroponic weed worth ₹1.4 crore at Surat airport

Surat: A passenger arriving at Surat International Airport from Bangkok was arrested after authorities found him carrying eight packets of hydroponic weed.

Acting on a tip-off, the Detection of Crime Branch of Surat City Police, Customs officials, and CISF personnel intercepted Jafar Akbar Khan, who had arrived on Air India Express flight IX-263 (seat 27C). Khan, a resident of Mumbai, was found hiding the banned narcotic substance in blankets, game boxes, and ladies’ purses inside his luggage. A thorough search led to the recovery of eight packets of hydroponic weed (hybrid marijuana) weighing around 4.055 kg.

According to authorities, the market value of this high-grade hybrid cannabis is estimated at ₹1,41,92,500. Officials said the seizure is among the largest narcotics hauls ever made at Surat airport.

The accused has been taken into custody, and Surat DCB police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the source of the consignment, its intended recipients in Surat, and others involved in the suspected international drug trafficking network. DeshGujarat
