Vadodara: A shocking incident of assault and arson took place on the night of November 6 at Navlakhi Maidan in the city, where a young couple sitting in the area was brutally beaten and their two-wheeler set on fire. Following investigations, the police arrested the main accused—a Head Constable from Raopura Police Station, along with his nephew and a friend. The Head Constable has now been suspended pending a departmental inquiry.

The victim, 22-year-old Sarfaraz Gafur Garasiya, a resident of Mahmadpura village near Kundhela in Dabhoi taluka, works at a travel company in the Navapura area. On November 6, around 8 PM, he was sitting with his girlfriend at the Navlakhi compound near the helipad area, which is designated for VVIP use, after taking an Activa from his employer.

At around 8:45 PM, three men in plain clothes arrived on a motorcycle. One of them showed a police ID and carried a baton on the bike. The men demanded Sarfaraz’s driving license and RC book. In front of the girl, they began beating him severely and later set his two-wheeler on fire.

Based on CCTV footage, Raopura police arrested Head Constable Nilesh Vanraj Baraiya (resident of Bhutadi Zampa Police Lines), his nephew Bhautik Vallabh Bhil, and his nephew’s friend Chatur Balu Baraiya (both residents of Naip, Mahuva, Bhavnagar).
