Rajya Sabha MP flags poor condition of Ahmedabad-Dahod Highway; Writes to Nitin Gadkari

Ahmedabad: Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Jashvantsinh Parmar has raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of the Ahmedabad–Indore National Highway (NH) 47, which connects Godhra to Ahmedabad. Parmar flagged the issue in a letter to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, along with a road survey report carried out by a private agency.

In the letter, Parmar said, “I seek to draw your kind attention to an issue of considerable public importance regarding the deteriorated condition of the Ahmedabad–Indore National Highway No. 47. Several stretches of this highway, particularly between the Pithai toll booth (near Kathlal) and Godhra, are presently marked by numerous potholes and damaged surfaces.”

He further stated that these conditions are causing severe inconvenience to motorists and have led to frequent accidents. “Despite repeated representations at the regional level, the pace of pothole-filling and maintenance works remains extremely slow, and certain critical patches continue to be neglected. I have personally observed these defects during recent travel on this route. The situation warrants urgent and decisive intervention,” he added.

According to the MP, earlier, after repeated representations, repair work was carried out on this road, but during the last monsoon the highway once again caved in at several locations. A survey of the stretch from Godhra to Odhav–Ahmedabad was subsequently conducted through a private agency, and its inspection report has been submitted to the Regional Officer of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Gandhinagar, Sunil Yadav.

The MP emphasized that prompt action is essential to ensure long-term safety for the large number of commuters dependent on this highway.

Expressing gratitude to the minister, Parmar said, “Earlier, when we met Minister Gadkari, he had given immediate instructions for repairing the road. With the submission of this survey report, I am confident that the difficulties and obstacles arising due to this highway will be addressed in the near future.” DeshGujarat
