Two IAS officers get additional charges as Sunaina Tomar retires

Gandhinagar: The General Administration Department (GAD) of the Government of Gujarat has issued an order dated November 29, 2025, assigning additional responsibilities to two senior IAS officers ahead of the retirement of Sunaina Tomar on November 30. The order, issued in the name of the Governor, outlines key administrative reshuffles in the state bureaucracy.

According to the notification, IAS officer Mukesh Kumar, currently serving as Principal Secretary in the Primary and Secondary Education Department, has been given additional charge as Principal Secretary of the Education Department, which includes Higher and Technical Education. He will assume the responsibilities currently held by IAS officer Sunaina Tomar, who is set to retire on November 30, 2025.

Similarly, IAS officer Dhananjay Dwivedi, who is presently the Principal Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, has been entrusted with additional charge as Principal Secretary in the GAD (Personnel) Department. Sunaina Tomar has been relieved from this position as part of the administrative transition.

A 1989-batch IAS officer of the Gujarat cadre, Sunaina Tomar has had a distinguished career spanning several decades. She has served in key roles across major departments, including Ports and Transport, Energy and Petrochemicals, Women and Child Development, Social Justice and Empowerment, and the Education Department, where she held positions of Principal Secretary and Additional Principal Secretary.
