AMC asked to clear Vadaj flyover barricades to ease traffic congestion

Ahmedabad: In a bid to ease escalating traffic congestion in the area, the City Police Commissioner (CP) has issued an urgent directive to the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to remove all non-essential barricades and construction material related to the Vadaj Flyover work within 24 hours.

The order came after the Commissioner personally visited the area to assess the severe traffic issues that have emerged following the closure of Subhash Bridge.

Traffic conditions have deteriorated sharply since the 70-year-old Subhash Bridge was shut for traffic on Thursday after cracks were detected in the bridge’s parapet. Testing agencies are currently evaluating structural samples, and a final decision is awaited from experts at IIT Mumbai, IIT Roorkee, and SVNIT. Meanwhile, the diversion of vehicles has placed a heavy burden on adjoining routes.

Commuters travelling along the Vadaj–Dudheshwar stretch faced significant difficulties on Friday morning, with heavy congestion reported during peak office hours. The combination of the bridge closure and ongoing construction at the Vadaj Junction has worsened traffic flow, leaving several motorists stuck for up to half an hour.

The CP’s directive to AMC aims to address bottlenecks caused by construction-related obstructions in the Vadaj area, especially critical given the increased traffic load due to diversions. DeshGujarat
