Chlorine gas leak near AUDA garden sends two firemen to hospital

Ahmedabad: Two personnel of the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) were hospitalised on Sunday evening after being exposed to chlorine fumes while responding to a gas leak near an AUDA garden in Ghatlodia.

According to officials, the control room received a call around 5:40 pm reporting that residents near Maharana Pratap Road were experiencing breathlessness and irritation due to a suspected gas leak. An AFES team was immediately sent to the spot.

Firemen Yuvrajsinh and Vijay Chauhan, who went to inspect the source of the leak, suffered intense coughing and severe vomiting due to the chlorine exposure. They were rushed to Sola Civil Hospital, where they are reported to be stable.

It was later learnt that an unidentified person had left a leaking chlorine cylinder near the garden. Fire personnel sprayed water over the cylinder to neutralise the fumes, and mitigation efforts continued late into the night. Meanwhile, police are on the lookout for the unknown individual who reportedly abandoned the cylinder. DeshGujarat
