Ahmedabad police seizes banned Chinese kite string worth ₹8.4 lakh

Ahmedabad: In view of the upcoming Uttarayan-2026 festival, the Ahmedabad district administration and city police have launched an intensive campaign to curb the sale and use of banned Chinese kite string, seizing a significant quantity in the process. According to a statement issued by the Additional Commissioner of Police, Special Branch Office, Chinese kite string worth a total of Rs 8,46,650 has been seized in Ahmedabad.
The seized items include 2,145 Chinese string trailers and 40 firkis. Ramol police station recorded the highest seizure, confiscating 2,040 trailers worth Rs 8,16,000. Sarkhej police seized 40 firkis valued at Rs 8,000, while Amraiwadi police recovered 90 trailers worth Rs 18,900. Shaherkotda police seized 15 trailers valued at Rs 3,750. In addition, an auto rickshaw worth Rs 1,70,000 has also been seized as part of the case materials.
These offenses have been registered primarily under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 113, 117, and 131 of the Gujarat Police Act.
To raise public awareness, Ahmedabad City Police organized programs in schools and public spaces, where officers and staff engaged with students and citizens using banners, posters, and interactive sessions. The initiative aims to inform the public about the hazards of using Chinese kite string and encourage them to avoid it.
Through this campaign, the district administration and the Police Commissioner have appealed to citizens to celebrate Uttarayan safely and urged anyone with information regarding the sale or use of banned Chinese kite string to report it to the police. DeshGujarat
