Vadodara: A 66-year-old woman was killed on Tuesday evening in a road accident near L&T Circle in Vadodara after a private bus operated by Patel Travels ran over the two-wheeler on which she was riding pillion. The accident triggered a major traffic jam, as her body remained trapped under the bus wheels for nearly an hour.

The delay in retrieving the body drew a large crowd to the spot, while the woman’s family members, including her injured elderly husband, pleaded for help. The accident occurred around 5 pm, when the couple, who was on their way to a hospital, was navigating the roundabout at L&T Circle amid heavy peak-hour traffic. CCTV footage that has gone viral shows the scooter losing balance, causing Shakuntalaben to fall off the two-wheeler, after which she was crushed under the wheels of the oncoming private staff bus.

Locals rushed to assist the injured couple, and a police PCR van, alerted by the 112 Emergency Response Support Centre, reached the spot. However, despite the arrival of a 108 ambulance, the victim’s body remained trapped under the bus for almost an hour.

Later, the body was removed with the help of the fire and emergency services team and taken to Sayaji Hospital for post-mortem. Police have registered a case, and the bus driver has been taken into custody, according to reports. DeshGujarat
