Subhash Bridge foundation undergoes detailed investigation
December 12, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) continues detailed investigation work on the existing foundation of Subhash Bridge as part of an ongoing structural assessment.
The bridge has been closed to the public until December 25 while teams examine both the foundation and the superstructure for potential defects. The AMC has brought in expert teams from IIT Roorkee, IIT Mumbai and SVNIT to conduct comprehensive inspections.
During the initial visit by specialists, a recommendation was made to carry out an in-depth investigation of the existing bridge foundation. Acting on this recommendation, the AMC assigned a specialised agency to conduct foundation testing, which is currently in progress. Alongside this, a comprehensive technical examination of the Subhash Bridge foundation is underway at an accelerated pace, with expert agencies employing modern technological methods for assessment.
As further inspection and testing were deemed necessary, an experienced expert organisation is conducting a detailed study of the bridge, while subject specialists are also performing foundation verification. Additional expert bodies are undertaking specialised analyses of the bridge’s safety and structural strength.
Officials say a repair strategy will be finalised once all assessments are completed. If any defect is detected in either the foundation or the superstructure, further decisions regarding repair will be taken accordingly.
Damage in the superstructure was first detected on December 4, prompting the immediate closure of the 52-year-old bridge as a safety measure.
Initial inspections revealed that the span above Pillar No. 9 had settled, and cracks had appeared in the parapet. This comes despite the bridge clearing three visual inspections since 2023. Following the revelation, the AMC initiated a detailed inspection with structural consultants empanelled by the R&B Design Circle of the Gujarat government. DeshGujarat
