AMC to reissue tender for Subhash Bridge repair after single bid received

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to initiate a re-tender process for the repair and redevelopment of Subhash Bridge after receiving only a single bid in the first round.

The earlier tender, valued at Rs 232.80 crore, was issued on January 3 with a 21-day submission window. However, only one company, DR Agarwal, participated in the bidding process. Since competitive bidding is required for further evaluation, AMC now plans to invite fresh bids through a shorter tender route to ensure timely progress on the crucial bridge project.

Subhash Bridge serves as a vital link between the Ranip and Shahibaug areas. Constructed in 1973, the bridge functioned without major issues for the past 52 years. However, on December 4, 2025, cracks were detected in the bridge deck along with settlement in the superstructure. In the interest of public safety, the bridge was closed to traffic, and AMC later announced plans for its redevelopment.

The project involves dismantling the existing superstructure and replacing it with a stronger steel composite girder system, along with the construction of a new two-lane road on both sides. As per the earlier tender conditions, the contractor will be responsible not only for construction but also for preparing the bridge design. The defect liability period has been extended to 10 years, significantly higher than the usual 2–4 years.

The repair work on the old bridge structure is expected to be completed within nine months after work begins, while the full project timeline is set at two years. DeshGujarat
