AMC to decide on height barriers for city bridges only after expert evaluation
December 14, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has clarified that no immediate decision has been taken to install height-restriction barriers on all bridges within its limits. A final call on the matter will be made only after an expert agency submits its technical inspection report.
According to AMC officials, the proposal to install height barriers on city bridges has been temporarily put on hold. The civic body is currently carrying out a detailed technical assessment of all bridges under its jurisdiction, focusing on their structural condition, load-bearing capacity, and overall safety.
The exercise follows directives issued by the Gujarat High Court and the state government, which have asked authorities to display design and load capacity information on bridges across the state and to consider height-restriction barriers on older bridges. In line with these instructions, the AMC has initiated inspections to determine the structural stability and viability of each bridge.
Officials said that any decision regarding the installation of height barriers will be taken only after reviewing the findings and recommendations of the expert agency conducting the inspections. At present, no agency has been appointed for installing such barriers.
The AMC further stated that the process is being carried out as per the directions of the State Development and Housing Department and guidelines issued by the Municipal Commissioner during a recent project review meeting. Consultations with bridge and structural experts are underway, and a final, informed decision will be taken after the process is completed.
The civic body reiterated that all measures related to bridge safety in the city will be based strictly on technical evaluation and expert advice. DeshGujarat
