Gujarati Hindu wedding season to take over 1.5 month-long break as Dhanarak Kamurta begins

Surat: Following the vibrant celebrations of Diwali, the wedding season across the state will now take a break for about one and a half months due to the beginning of Dhanurmas (Dhanarak Kamurta) and the upcoming Venus (Shukra) transit.

This year, the wedding season had started amid concerns over fewer auspicious dates. Dhanurmas, which began on December 15–16 with the Sun’s entry into Sagittarius (Dhanu), will end on January 14. The wedding season is expected to resume afterward, but with Venus remaining in transit until February 3, auspicious ceremonies, including weddings, are limited during this period. The season is expected to pick up from February 5, with favorable dates for ceremonies on February 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 20, 21, and 22.

According to astrology, certain planetary positions, star alignments, and tithis are considered inauspicious for major life events like weddings. These include Venus’ transit, Jupiter’s (Guru) transit, Dhanurmas, Chaturmas, and Holashtak. Maharaj Kiritsinh Shukla explained that the current Dhanurmas began with the Sun’s entry into Sagittarius and will continue until January 14, with the Sun remaining in Sagittarius until 3:08 PM on that day.

Makar Sankranti, celebrated on January 14, marks the Sun’s entry into Capricorn (Makar) and the end of Dhanurmas, signaling the return of auspicious days. However, due to Venus’ transit, weddings and other ceremonies cannot be scheduled until February 3. Once Venus rises, the wedding season will gain momentum from February 5, with families finalizing their arrangements.

NRI Weddings in December, Jupiter’s Transit in July

Traditionally, the period from December 15 to January 14 is considered inauspicious due to Dhanurmas. Despite this, the last fortnight of December sees a surge in NRI weddings, as many families travel to India during the Christmas holidays.

Later in the year, Jupiter’s transit from July 15 to August 9, Holashtak from February 23 to March 2, and Meenark from March 14 to April 14 will again limit the number of auspicious wedding dates, creating concerns for couples and their families. DeshGujarat
