AMC hammers bring down parapet wall at decades-old Premabhai Hall
December 19, 2025
Ahmedabad: A team of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday carried out preventive demolition work at Premabhai Hall, one of the city’s oldest auditoriums, after a portion of its parapet wall was found to be dangerously leaning outward.
The action was taken after the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of AMC’s Central Zone noticed the condition of the parapet wall during his morning round. Thousands of pedestrians and commuters pass along the road below the structure throughout the day. As a precautionary measure to prevent any loss of life or property, the dangerous parapet wall was removed by employees of the Central Zone Estate Department.
During the operation, pedestrian movement and traffic in the area were temporarily restricted to ensure public safety. Designed by renowned architect B.V. Doshi in 1972, Premabhai Hall has remained closed since 1997. The civic body clarified that the action was limited to removing the hazardous parapet and did not involve demolition of the heritage structure itself. DeshGujarat
