Gujarat earned over ₹24,500 crore from petrol, diesel sales in 2024–25: Centre

New Delhi: Gujarat has emerged as one of the top revenue-earning states from petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL) products, generating substantial sales tax revenue through fuel sales. According to data shared by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the state collected over ₹24,500 crore in sales tax/VAT from POL products in the financial year 2024–25 (provisional).
The figures indicate a significant rise over the past five years. Gujarat’s sales tax collection from POL products stood at ₹15,140.8 crore in 2020–21 and has since increased steadily to ₹24,586.2 crore in 2024–25 (provisional).

In addition to VAT revenue, Gujarat also earned ₹2,980.2 crore in 2024–25 (provisional) through the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) on POL products.
