Ahmedabad: A CBI Court here has convicted and sentenced the accused persons, namely Anil Kumar Sharma, the then Recovery Inspector, Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT), Ashram Road, Ahmedabad, and Amit Kotak, Advocate, DRT, Ashram Road, Ahmedabad, to two years rigorous imprisonment (RI) with a total fine of Rs. 1.5 lakh in a bribery case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered the instant case on 15.01.2009 on allegations that the accused, Anil Kumar Sharma and Amit Kotak, demanded illegal gratification of Rs. 3,50,000 from the complainant for settling the auction issue of three properties and deferring the execution of an already auctioned property belonging to the complainant’s cousin. The accused Anil Kumar Sharma had demanded that Rs. 1,00,000 be paid first, with the balance amount of Rs. 2,50,000 to be paid later.
CBI laid a trap and caught Amit Kotak red-handed while accepting the illegal gratification of Rs. 1,00,000 from the complainant. Both Anil Kumar Sharma and Amit Kotak were arrested on 16.01.2009. Searches were conducted at their residences and offices.
After completing the investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet on 26.11.2009 against the accused. Following the trial, the Court convicted and sentenced the accused persons accordingly. DeshGujarat
