Adverse Weather in North India Causes Flight Delays, Cancellations at Ahmedabad Airport

Ahmedabad: Flight operations at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport were significantly disrupted on Monday due to adverse weather conditions across North India, particularly dense fog and cold-wave conditions affecting the Delhi–NCR region and neighbouring states.

As per the airport website, multiple flights were either delayed or cancelled, impacting both arrivals and departures. The disruptions were largely linked to poor visibility in North India, where dense fog has enveloped Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab, slowing air traffic and forcing airlines to reschedule services.

Six Ahmedabad–Delhi flights hit

A total of six flights on the Ahmedabad–Delhi sector were disrupted during the day.

Arrivals: Four flights from Indira Gandhi International Airport were affected — two Air India flights were delayed, while one IndiGo and one Air India flight were cancelled.

Departures: Two outbound flights to Delhi were disrupted — one Air India flight was delayed and another was cancelled.

Wider impact on flight operations

Besides Delhi-bound services, several other domestic and international flights operating to and from Ahmedabad faced delays and cancellations. Flights from cities such as Chandigarh, Raipur and Amritsar were cancelled, while services connected to Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi, Bhubaneswar, Siliguri and Nasik reported delays. International arrivals and departures involving Dubai, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and Kuwait were also affected.

Fog paralyses North India

Dense fog and sharply reduced visibility in North India have disrupted air and rail traffic, leaving passengers stranded at several airports and railway stations. An Air India Express flight bound for Delhi from Goa was diverted to Ahmedabad after it was unable to land at IGI Airport due to poor visibility.

Airlines, including IndiGo, issued advisories urging passengers to check their flight status before heading to airports, citing fluctuating visibility and CAT III conditions at Delhi and Hindon airports. Delhi Airport authorities also warned of possible delays and cancellations, stating that operations were continuing under low-visibility protocols.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has meanwhile shared customer support numbers of various airlines to help passengers stay updated amid the ongoing fog-related disruptions. DeshGujarat
