Unseasonal Rains Hit Dwarka and Porbandar in Gujarat
December 31, 2025
Dwarka/Porbandar: The final day of the year witnessed unseasonal rain across parts of Saurashtra, as a sudden change in weather conditions and unexpected showers raised concerns among farmers over possible damage to winter crops.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rainfall was forecast in parts of Saurashtra and north Gujarat. The prediction proved accurate as several areas of Porbandar and Devbhoomi Dwarka districts received showers on Wednesday morning.
Parts of Porbandar city and surrounding rural areas experienced unseasonal rain after dark clouds covered the sky since early morning. Intermittent showers left main roads, market areas, and residential localities wet, while cold winds intensified the chill, creating a monsoon-like atmosphere in the midst of winter.
Similar conditions prevailed in Devbhoomi Dwarka district, where Jamkhambalia and Kalyanpur talukas recorded sudden rainfall. Rural areas including Hanjapar, Mowan, Sonardi, and Datrana received showers strong enough to cause waterlogging on village roads. The abrupt weather change disrupted daily life, causing inconvenience to commuters and pedestrians.
The unseasonal “mavtha” rain has heightened anxiety among farmers, as winter crops such as cumin, gram, coriander, and wheat are currently at a crucial stage of growth.
Meanwhile, Ahmedabad and Surat witnessed dense foggy conditions since early morning, along with a noticeable rise in pollution levels. Cloudy weather continues to prevail in several other parts of the state, indicating the ongoing impact of changing weather patterns across Gujarat. DeshGujarat
