Passenger arriving from Bangkok held at Ahmedabad Airport with ₹8 crore weed

Ahmedabad: An Indian passenger arriving from Bangkok was nabbed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport after Customs officials intercepted him and seized 7.7 kg of hydroponic cannabis (weed).
Acting on specific intelligence inputs received from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Ahmedabad, Customs officials intercepted the accused. During a detailed and systematic check of the passenger’s check-in baggage, six vacuum-sealed polythene packets hidden among clothes were recovered. On further examination, the packets were found to contain a greenish, lumpy substance with a strong and pungent smell, suspected to be high-grade hydroponic cannabis, which was confirmed by field tests.
Following confirmation, the passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Officials said the seized contraband is estimated to be worth around ₹8 crore in the illegal market. DeshGujarat
