Former Dediapada MLA Mahesh Vasava set to join Congress
January 06, 2026
Narmada: In a significant political development in the tribal-dominated regions of the state, former Dediapada MLA and tribal leader Mahesh Vasava is set to join the Congress party. Vasava is the son of veteran tribal leader and Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) founder Chhotu Vasava and has earlier served as the president of the BTP.
Mahesh Vasava resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in April 2025 after a brief nine-month stint with the ruling party. At the time of his resignation, he had expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s ideology and functioning.
Vasava had earlier won the 2017 Assembly elections as a BTP candidate and is now preparing to join the Congress, a move believed to give a significant boost to the party in tribal pockets of the state. He is expected to formally join the party during the Congress’ ongoing ‘Jan Aakrosh Yatra’. DeshGujarat
