Kalol: A businessman in Kalol has alleged that he was denied entry into a housing society and prevented from renovating his property due to caste-based discrimination, prompting him to file a police complaint.
According to the complainant, Bharatsinh Zala, a resident of the Panchvati area, he purchased a house in Atulya Bungalows. However, he alleged that members of the society, including its office-bearers, blocked his entry and halted renovation work after learning about his caste.
Zala claimed that society representatives told him they do not allot houses or permit residence to people belonging to specific communities, naming Darbar, Barot and Rabari groups. He further alleged that after initially allowing renovation, the society installed barricades, stopped issuing entry stickers, refused to process his property transfer, and eventually barred him from entering the premises altogether.
“When renovation began, there was no barricade. Later, they started monitoring us, put up barricades, stopped giving stickers and finally stopped the work, telling us not to come inside at all,” Zala said.
Zala stated that he has lodged a formal complaint with the local police seeking action against those responsible. The matter has sparked concern as it highlights allegations of caste-based discrimination in a residential housing society. Police officials said they are examining the complaint and will take appropriate action after verification of facts and statements from all parties involved. DeshGujarat
