Gandhi Smriti Bhavan reconstruction work 58% complete; SMC commissioner reviews project

Surat: Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agarwal today inspected the ongoing reconstruction work of Gandhi Smriti Bhavan Auditorium, with the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) reporting steady progress on the project. According to SMC officials, the project has achieved 58 per cent physical progress and 44 per cent financial progress to date.
Several major components of the work have already been completed, including multi-level parking infrastructure such as RCC, masonry, plaster and exposed brickwork, as well as auditorium RCC works, masonry and plastering. Flooring in the green room and rehearsal room has also been finished.
Work currently in progress includes the auditorium roof and its fabrication, waterproofing, tile fitting in toilet blocks, and the exposed brick façade.
During the inspection, the Municipal Commissioner directed that remaining works, such as complete electrification, HVAC systems, firefighting installations, acoustical and interior fittings, audio and sound systems, stage lighting, and wooden stage construction, be carried out simultaneously to meet the next project deadline. She also emphasised the importance of maintaining construction quality and ensuring adherence to air quality standards at the site.
The upgraded Gandhi Smriti Bhavan is expected to emerge as a modern cultural and performance venue upon completion. DeshGujarat
