Banking services in Gujarat to halt for four days amid strike, holidays from Jan 24
January 10, 2026
Ahmedabad: Public sector banks across Gujarat will remain closed for four consecutive days from Saturday, January 24, to Tuesday, January 27, due to a combination of holidays and a nationwide bank strike.
The shutdown begins with the fourth Saturday holiday on January 24, followed by Sunday on January 25 and Republic Day on January 26. On January 27, banking operations will be suspended as part of an all-India strike called by bank unions, affecting branch services, cash transactions, and cheque clearing.
The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) said the strike could disrupt transactions worth over ₹50,000 crore in the state in a single day. While in-branch services will be impacted, digital banking, UPI, ATMs, and mobile apps are expected to function normally.
The strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) over the delay in implementing a five-day workweek, staff shortages, and concerns over privatisation and large corporate loan write-offs. DeshGujarat
