Surat Diamond Broker Sets Example of Integrity, Prints Flyers to Return Lost Gold Bar to Owner

SURAT – In an inspiring display of honesty within the city’s famous diamond industry, a local broker has gone to extraordinary lengths to return a lost 10-gram gold bar to its rightful owner.

Dayabhai Dayalbhai Waghani, a veteran with 30 years of experience in the diamond trade, found the gold bar—valued at over 1.5 lakh rupees—in the parking lot of the Mahidharpura diamond market. Dayabhai, who is originally from Patli in the Botad district, found the item on the evening of the 7th while heading to his vehicle.

Despite the current trend of rising gold prices and the fact that the diamond industry is navigating a difficult period, Dayabhai stated he never entertained the thought of keeping the gold for himself. Upon finding the bar, he immediately consulted his family members, who all unanimously agreed that the treasure must be returned.

To locate the owner, Dayabhai printed and posted 20 flyers throughout the market area, inviting the person who lost the item to contact him. After a claimant came forward, Dayabhai performed a thorough verification process to ensure the gold reached its true owner.

The formal handover took place in the presence of the Surat Diamond Association. Members of the association remarked that the entire diamond industry is built on a foundation of trust, and Dayabhai’s actions serve as a proud example of the integrity that continues to sustain the market.

Dayabhai, who is now semi-retired but still visits his office daily, expressed that returning the bar brought him great happiness, reinforcing the idea that honesty remains a core value in Surat’s business community. DeshGujarat
