Gujarat Weather Wrap: Ahmedabad Warmer, Vadodara, Rajkot had Colder night

Gandhinagar, January 16: Most of Gujarat’s large cities experienced warmer-than-normal daytime temperatures on January 15, while several urban centres recorded cooler-than-normal nights, according to the latest bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad Met Centre, reported at 08:30 IST on January 16.
Cities that remained warmer during the day
The data shows that Rajkot emerged as one of the warmest major cities, with a maximum temperature of 31.3°C, which was 2.8°C above normal, indicating significantly warmer daytime conditions.
Bhuj also recorded notably higher daytime temperatures, with a maximum of 29.7°C, 2.2°C above normal.
Among other major cities, Vadodara (Baroda) saw a maximum of 30.8°C, which was 1.4°C above normal, while Surat recorded 31.6°C, 1.3°C above normal, making both cities warmer than usual.
The state capital region also experienced warmer conditions, as Ahmedabad logged a maximum of 28.7°C (1.0°C above normal) and Gandhinagar recorded 28.0°C (0.9°C above normal).
Coastal city Bhavnagar was slightly warmer than usual at 28.2°C (0.5°C above normal), while Dwarka and Okha saw marginally higher maximum temperatures.
Cities that experienced cooler nights
While days were generally warmer, night temperatures told a different story in several cities.
Amreli recorded one of the coldest nights, with a minimum of 9.4°C, which was 2.4°C below normal, marking a significant dip in nighttime temperatures.
Vadodara (Baroda) saw a minimum of 11.8°C (1.1°C below normal), while Rajkot also experienced cooler nights at 11.3°C (1.1°C below normal).
Coastal stations such as Diu (10.3°C, -1.3°C) and Veraval (14.5°C, -0.6°C) were also colder than usual at night.
Surat’s minimum temperature stood at 14.6°C, slightly below normal by 0.1°C, indicating a mild cooling trend. Kandla recorded 12.2°C, which was 1.5°C below normal, making it one of the cooler coastal locations at night.
Cities with warmer nights
In contrast, some cities experienced warmer-than-normal nights. Ahmedabad recorded a minimum of 14.5°C, which was 2.6°C above normal, while Gandhinagar saw 13.5°C (2.3°C above normal).
Bhuj (12.4°C, +1.6°C) and Deesa (11.0°C, +1.5°C) also reported warmer-than-normal minimum temperatures.
Overall trend
The bulletin suggests a mixed pattern across Gujarat: most large cities remained warmer than normal during the day, but several key urban centres experienced cooler-than-normal nights, particularly in Saurashtra and parts of coastal Gujarat. DeshGujarat
