Surat: The Food Inspection Department of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) conducted an intensive inspection drive across the city during the previous month.

During the inspections, Food Safety Officers carried out checks at establishments involved in the manufacturing and sale of food products within the municipal limits. Samples of ghee, paneer, and other food items were collected and sent for analysis to the Public Health Laboratory of the Surat Municipal Corporation.

Out of the total samples tested, six were found not conforming to the prescribed standards under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and its associated rules and regulations, according to a report submitted by the Food Analyst of the Public Health Laboratory.

The details are as follows:

1. Jyotiraditya Foods Products, Shop No. 71, Thakornagar, Udhna, Surat
Sample: Table margarine (butter)
Result: Substandard (presence of Beta-sitosterol)

2. Akshar Ghee, Plot No. 8, Shop No. 22, Tapovan Society, Dabholi Char Rasta, Surat
Sample: Akshar Desi Cow Bilona Ghee
Result: Substandard (presence of Beta-sitosterol)

3. M/s Aakash Motels Pvt Ltd, Tirupati International Hotels and Restaurant, opposite Railway Station, Surat
Sample: Curd
Result: Substandard (fat content below prescribed standard)

4. New Dhanlaxmi General and Kirana Store, Plot No. 11–12, Ashapuri-2, Bamroli, Surat
Sample: White jaggery
Result: Substandard (presence of colouring matter)

5. Alpeshbhai Ishwarbhai Sathaliya, cattle shed behind Ahir Samaj Wadi, Laskana, Surat
Sample: Buffalo ghee
Result: Substandard (presence of Beta-sitosterol)

6. Krishna Super Store, Shop No. 8, VIP High Street, VIP Road, Vesu, Surat
Sample: Jaggery
Result: Substandard (presence of colouring matter)

The civic body stated that further legal action will be initiated against the concerned establishments and individuals under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the rules framed thereunder. DeshGujarat
