January 26, 2026
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government is set to establish an ‘International MediCity’ near Kalol with an investment of ₹13,000 crore, modelled on Dubai Healthcare City. The ambitious project is expected to place Gandhinagar district prominently on the global healthcare map, said Revenue Department Additional Chief Secretary Dr Jayanti Ravi today.
Dr Ravi was speaking at the flag-hoisting ceremony held at Ramkatha Ground in Gandhinagar on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day celebrations.
As per reports, the MediCity will feature Joint Commission International-accredited hospitals, supported by infrastructure such as medical and nursing colleges, R&D hubs, a medical devices park, cold chain facilities and allied healthcare enablers.
“The objective is to create a centralised ecosystem for treatment, rehabilitation and healthcare services, along with a dedicated R&D zone for pharma, biotech and related sectors,” a news report said. The project is likely to be implemented through a Medical Value Travel (MVT) board comprising representatives from the state health and tourism departments. Officials aim to complete the MediCity on priority by 2028.
Dubai Healthcare City is globally recognised as a state-of-the-art healthcare and wellness hub, hosting leading international and regional providers, with dedicated zones for medical education, service delivery, residential and commercial development. DeshGujarat
