Amrit Bharat Express train hits 130 kmph during trial on Ahmedabad-Mumbai route

Ahmedabad: As part of Indian Railways’ initiative to provide affordable travel options through semi-high-speed trains, the newly introduced Amrit Bharat Express has undergone an official trial run on the busy Ahmedabad–Mumbai section of Western Railway, achieving speeds of up to 130 kmph.

The trial was conducted in the presence of officials from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO). With this development, Ahmedabad railway station is likely to emerge as a major hub for Amrit Bharat trains in the near future.

According to railway planning and ongoing trials, the Amrit Bharat Express may soon operate on long-distance routes such as Ahmedabad–Patna, Ahmedabad–Darbhanga or Ahmedabad–Varanasi. The estimated fare is expected to be around ₹500 per 1,000 km, making it significantly more affordable than premium train services.

Unlike other semi-high-speed services such as the Vande Bharat Express, which primarily operate with fully air-conditioned coaches, the Amrit Bharat train, though featuring the same aerodynamic engine design as Vande Bharat, includes only non-AC sleeper and general coaches.

A total of 22 coaches have been manufactured at ICF Chennai. The train is equipped with a special suspension system designed to minimise jerks and enhance passenger comfort. The new service is expected to offer a fast, safe and economical travel experience.

Key features of Amrit Bharat Express:

  • Rapid pick-up to reduce station halt time and overall journey duration
