242 motorists fined as Surat RTO cracks down on illegal white LED lights
February 03, 2026
Surat: The Surat Regional Transport Office (RTO) has intensified its crackdown on motorists using unauthorized bright white LED lights, booking 242 vehicles for violations over the past week.
Officials said unauthorized high-intensity LED lights cause severe glare for other road users, often resulting in temporary blindness for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders and increasing the risk of serious accidents, particularly at night.
The RTO noted that despite repeated warnings and bans, many motorists continue to install illegal white lights by tampering with the manufacturer’s original design. To curb the growing menace, the department has announced a special enforcement drive across the city next Thursday.
During the drive, multiple RTO teams will be deployed to impose on-the-spot fines and seize vehicles found using such unauthorized lighting systems. Authorities also warned that action will not be limited to motorists but will extend to garage owners and workshops fitting illegal lights.
The RTO has urged vehicle owners to remove such lights voluntarily to avoid heavy penalties and strict action. DeshGujarat
