Porbandar police crack down on illegal white LED and flasher lights on vehicles
May 10, 2026
Porbandar: To curb road accidents caused by high-intensity vehicle lights, the Traffic Police and Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Porbandar have launched a special drive against vehicles fitted with illegal LED and flasher lights.
During the three-day campaign, action was taken against 32 motorists and e-challans worth Rs 32,000 were issued for violating traffic regulations.
Officials said the drive was conducted jointly by the traffic department and the RTO as part of efforts to improve road safety and reduce accidents in the district.
During inspections, authorities checked vehicles fitted with high-power LED lights, flashers and other bright lighting systems installed in violation of prescribed norms. In several cases, illegal lights were removed from vehicles on the spot.
Police officials stated that excessively bright LED lights can temporarily impair the vision of drivers coming from the opposite direction, increasing the risk of serious accidents, especially during night travel on highways.
Authorities have appealed to motorists to use only company-fitted and legally approved lighting systems in vehicles.
Officials also warned that installing unauthorised bright lights, flashers or decorative lighting through illegal vehicle modifications is an offence under the Motor Vehicles Act. The enforcement drive will continue in the coming days, police said.DeshGujarat
