Bullet train expansion to cut day-long journey from Ahmedabad to Pune, Hyderabad to hours

Ahmedabad: The Centre’s plan for new high-speed rail corridors is set to sharply cut travel time for passengers from Ahmedabad. With the proposed extension of the Ahmedabad–Mumbai bullet train, commuters could reach Pune in nearly three hours and Hyderabad in about six hours.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Mumbai–Pune journey would take just 48 minutes, while the Pune–Hyderabad stretch would be covered in around 1 hour and 55 minutes, enabling seamless same-day travel for business professionals, students and tourists.

He added that the Ahmedabad–Mumbai corridor will be extended to Pune and Hyderabad, with future links planned to Bengaluru and Chennai. For passengers from Ahmedabad, this would ensure faster, more reliable and comfortable access to major economic and IT hubs across western and southern India. The Union Budget 2026–27 proposes nearly 4,000 km of bullet train routes across the country, with a long-term target of 7,000 km. DeshGujarat
