Ahmedabad: Police rescued a minor Class 12 science student from the Vejalpur area of the city at Kharagpur railway station in West Bengal after she was allegedly abducted and raped by a man she met through the online game Free Fire.
The victim, a 16-year-old girl, came into contact with 22-year-old Armaan Mohammad Azgar from West Bengal while playing Free Fire on her phone. Their in-game chats gradually developed into a closer bond. Over the past 18 months, they exchanged phone numbers and stayed in regular touch on WhatsApp, where he allegedly convinced her that it was true love.
Investigators said the accused travelled from West Bengal to Ahmedabad on January 22 and allegedly raped the girl when he found her alone at home.
The next day, he allegedly persuaded her to board a train from Kalupur railway station, planning to take her to his home state. Her family, alarmed by her disappearance, reported her missing to Vejalpur police.
Officers traced her phone and found that she was on a train heading to Kharagpur. They alerted the Kharagpur railway police with her details, chat logs, and the suspect’s phone location, confirming that he was travelling with her.
Kharagpur police detained the pair when the train arrived. Vejalpur police officers then took custody of the accused, brought him to Ahmedabad, and safely reunited the minor with her family.
Medical examinations were conducted on both, and the investigation is ongoing. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. DeshGujarat.
