February 19, 2026
Surat: The recently announced Dankuni–Surat Dedicated Freight Corridor, aimed at linking eastern and western India, has gathered momentum, with the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) initiating key implementation steps.
A recent high-level meeting chaired by DFCCIL Managing Director Praveen Kumar reviewed crucial aspects of the project, including route alignment, major engineering components, technical specifications, and proposed station infrastructure. Discussions also focused on connectivity with Indian Railways, yard configurations, and preliminary cost estimates to ensure seamless and faster freight movement over the next five decades.
The forenoon session involved detailed technical deliberations among senior DFCCIL leadership, including directors and executive directors from operations, infrastructure, finance, asset management, and contract management, along with general managers and other officials.
Later in the day, DFCCIL held consultations with construction companies, consultants, and key stakeholders to gather contract-related suggestions and streamline tendering and execution processes for timely project completion.
Once operational, the EWDFC is expected to bring major changes to India’s logistics sector. The corridor is likely to significantly benefit Surat’s textile and diamond industries by improving raw material supply chains and accelerating the transportation of finished goods, positioning the project as a potential game-changer for regional trade and industrial growth.
