128 Gujarat Fishermen in Pakistani Jails; 3 Died in Last 2 Years: Govt

Gandhinagar: As many as 128 fishermen from Gujarat are currently lodged in Pakistani jails as of January 20, 2026, the state government informed the Legislative Assembly.
Responding to a question during the ongoing Budget Session, the Fisheries Minister provided details regarding the status of Gujarat fishermen detained across the border.
According to the official reply, 128 fishermen from the state are presently imprisoned in Pakistan.
The government further stated that five fishermen have died in Pakistani custody over the past two years. Between January 21, 2024, and January 20, 2025, two fishermen lost their lives, while one deaths was reported between January 21, 2025, and January 20, 2026.
On efforts made for their release, the state government said it has been regularly corresponding with the Central Government, urging it to take necessary diplomatic steps to secure the early release of the detained fishermen. DeshGujarat
