February 23, 2026
Ahmedabad: A sudden change in weather across Gujarat triggered unseasonal showers in several districts late Sunday night, while the city also woke up to a cloudy Monday.
After rainfall was reported in multiple districts on February 20, fresh spells were recorded on February 23 in parts of Bharuch district, including Ankleshwar and Jambusar, as well as in Gandhinagar. Light rain accompanied by cold winds brought a slight dip in temperature and overcast skies across several regions.
Showers in Bharuch; winds lash Jambusar belt
In Bharuch city and surrounding talukas, early morning drizzle was witnessed. In Jambusar taluka, particularly in Kora village and nearby areas, rain accompanied by gusty winds and lightning was reported. The sudden showers, arriving while most residents were asleep, caught many by surprise and spread a chill across the region.
Farmers in the district expressed apprehension that the unseasonal rain could harm crops that are either ready for harvest or in the final stages of maturity.
Late-night rain in Visavadar raises alarm
Similar conditions prevailed in Visavadar town and adjoining rural areas, where late-night rain began after a cloudy afternoon. Thunderclouds gathered and light to moderate showers lashed the region.
Yellow alert for south Gujarat districts
The weather department has reportedly issued a yellow alert for light rainfall in Surat, Tapi, Bharuch, Narmada and Chhota Udepur districts for the next few hours. Reduced visibility due to overcast conditions and cold winds has caused inconvenience to motorists in some areas.
However, the department has indicated that weather conditions across the state are likely to remain largely dry over the next week, though temperatures may dip slightly due to northerly and northwesterly winds.
Temperature trends stable; no major spike expected
According to the latest 0830 IST weather report dated February 23, major cities recorded maximum temperatures above normal on February 22. Ahmedabad reported a maximum of 35.4°C (3.1°C above normal) and a minimum of 19.5°C (3.9°C above normal), while Gandhinagar recorded a maximum of 34.8°C and a minimum of 18.5°C. Rajkot and Amreli also saw maximum temperatures touching 35.9°C.
No significant rise in temperatures is expected over the coming week. Ahmedabad is likely to see maximum temperatures hovering between 34°C and 35°C, while Gandhinagar may remain between 33°C and 34°C. DeshGujarat
