Industry Body Presses for Rail Infra Boost, Seeks Vande Bharat Sleeper Services for Kutch

Rajkot: Industries in Kutch have sought a comprehensive railway master plan and enhanced train connectivity, citing rapid industrial growth, rising workforce numbers and increasing tourist traffic.

The Federation of Kutch Industries Association (FOKIA) raised the demands at the 36th Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) meeting of Western Railway in Mumbai, chaired by General Manager Pradeep Kumar.

FOKIA representative and ZRUCC member Bhaven Thakkar urged speedy gauge conversion of the Bhuj–Naliya line and extension of the broad gauge track from Luna to Vyor–Lakhpat. According to FOKIA, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is ready and will be sent to the Railway Board after approval.

Thakkar also stressed the need for direct high-speed rail links in the absence of an international airport in Kutch and demanded Vande Bharat Sleeper services between Bhuj–Delhi and Bhuj–Mumbai.

FOKIA Managing Director Nimish Phadke said improved rail services would benefit thousands working at Kandla–Gandhidham and Mundra ports. The association also proposed a parallel public rail line along the Adipur–Mundra route with regular DEMU and MEMU services, and called for fast-tracking the Bhuj–Khavda rail line, where projects worth nearly Rs 2 lakh crore are underway.
