February 26, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Standing Committee of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), at its meeting held today, approved several key proposals aimed at urban development, renewable energy adoption, and tourism enhancement in the city.
Addressing the media, Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani stated that the committee has approved budgetary provisions for the development of major tourist destinations to make them more visitor-friendly. The required expenditure for the initiative has been sanctioned by the state government.
Tourist spots identified for development include Kankaria Lake, Atal Bridge, Sabarmati Riverfront, Jagannath Temple, and Swaminarayan Temple.
Candy Museum and New Rides at Kankaria
Highlighting new attractions at Kankaria Lakefront, Dani said the area, which underwent major development during Narendra Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister, continues to attract large crowds.
Following the establishment of a children’s nursery last year, the committee has now granted permission to introduce new rides within the Kankaria premises. It has also approved the construction of a candy museum with an investment of Rs 10 crore. The AMC will receive 35 percent of the revenue generated from the project. The museum is expected to be completed within one year.
Light-and-Musical Fountain to Enhance Visitor Experience
To further enhance Kankaria’s appeal, the committee approved a Rs 5.53 crore project for a light-and-musical multimedia fountain at the lakefront.
The approved cost is Rs 5,53,77,060 plus applicable GST. The project includes the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the fountain, along with a one-year defect liability period and four years of operation and maintenance.
The fountain will integrate water displays, music, lighting, and visual projections, including a water screen. Four theme-based shows, each lasting 15 minutes, will be screened daily after 7 pm. The initiative aims to transform Kankaria into a vibrant entertainment hub while offering visitors an immersive experience showcasing the city’s history, culture, and development. DeshGujarat
