Ahmedabad: Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on February 28th, reviewed the progress of the ongoing redevelopment works at Ahmedabad Railway Station, one of the flagship projects under Indian Railways’ nationwide station modernisation programme.

Indian Railways is undertaking the upgradation and modernisation of over 1,300 railway stations across the country, with Ahmedabad emerging as a key project due to its strategic and passenger significance.

During the review, officials informed the Minister that three new platforms are being added to enhance operational capacity and accommodate increasing passenger traffic.

Significant progress has been achieved across multiple components of the project:

  • Multimodal Transport Hub (MMTH) Building: The southern lower portion is 58.2 per cent complete, while 24.0 per cent of the upper portion has been completed. Work on the 7th and 8th floors is currently underway.

As part of the transformation, a 15-acre concourse plaza and a 7-acre mezzanine plaza are being developed to improve passenger circulation and provide enhanced amenities.

In terms of structural progress, steel fabrication has been completed up to the 5th floor, while work on the 6th to 8th floors is approximately 70 per cent complete. Deck slab casting has been completed up to the 4th floor, with around 50 per cent work done on the 5th floor. Basement and ground floor block work and plastering are about 85 per cent complete.

On the platform side, resurfacing, MEPF (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire), and BLT works have been completed on Platform 10/Line 16. At Platform 9/Line 15, BLT work has been completed and resurfacing is currently in progress.
