Rs 20,383 Crore Toll Collected from Gujarat on National Highways in Last 5 Years: Centre Replies to Nathwani

New Delhi: The central government has collected toll worth Rs 20,383 crore from the National Highways passing through Gujarat over the last five years. The central government has also allotted Rs 47,236 crore for Development & Maintenance of NHs of Gujarat during these five years. The information was provided by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Jairam Gadkari in Rajya Sabha on March 11, 2026 while replying to a question raised by RS MP Parimal Nathwani.
Nathwani wanted the details of toll collected from National Highways of Gujarat during last five years and funds allocated to the State for construction & maintenance work of national highways in the State during the same period. Further, he also inquired about the deadline for completion of work on highway projects of Gujarat, particularly on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad (NH-48), Surat-Dahisar and Ahmedabad Rajkot-Jetpur routes. In addition, Nathwani also wanted to know about the steps taken by Government in terms of extensive potholes and broken surfaces on major highway routes of Gujarat including Bharuch-Surat and Ahmedabad-Himmatnagar highway.
Providing information about Vapi-Surat & Surat- Bharuch stretch of NH-48, the minister stated that after completion of the 6-laning work it is currently under maintenance on Performance Based Road Maintenance Contract (PBMC) mode. The work of construction of 16 Nos of bridges and flyovers/Vehicular underpass is under progress, which is targeted to be completed by January 2027.
In the written reply, the information provided that the 6-laning work of Bharuch-Vadodara Stretch of NH-48 has already been completed in 2011 and is currently under maintenance on PBMC mode. The work of construction of 07 Nos of bridges and flyovers/Vehicular underpass is under progress, which is targeted to be completed by December 2026. While, the 6-laning work of Vadodara-Ahmedabad stretch has already been completed and it is under BOT. The balance work of 6-laning work of Shamlaji – Mota Chiloda is targeted for completion by June 2026, it was informed.
The minister also informed that the 6-laning work is under progress of Rajkot-Jetpur section of NH-27 and targeted for completion by January-2027. Rajkot-Ahmedabad project is under jurisdiction of Govt. of Gujarat and being done through their own budgetary resources.
Further, work of Delhi- Mumbai Expressway is also under implementation which is targeted for completion by March-2028, it was informed.
