March 14, 2026
Surat: A SpiceJet flight from Dubai to Mumbai was diverted to Surat International Airport on Friday morning after a technical malfunction was reported mid-flight. The aircraft, SG5514, landed safely at around 8.20 am after the crew reportedly experienced issues with the GPS and radar systems.
Since landing, the aircraft has remained grounded at Surat Airport. There were 178 passengers and crew members on board. As the flight could not continue its journey, alternative transport was arranged, and passengers were sent to Mumbai by road after completing immigration and customs formalities at Surat Airport. The buses left for Mumbai at around 3.10 pm.
Passengers reluctant to disembark
It is learnt that after the flight landed in Surat, passengers were asked to disembark, but around 20 passengers travelling onward to South India initially refused to get off the aircraft. They demanded confirmation of further travel arrangements from Mumbai. However, after discussion with airport officials, they agreed to disembark at around 2.30 pm and later left for Mumbai along with other passengers. DeshGujarat
