33 Flats Found Illegally Rented in Koteshwar Housing Scheme; AUDA Issues Eviction Notices

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) has found that 33 flats allotted under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) scheme at the Madhurmilan Housing Scheme in Koteshwar, Gandhinagar, were illegally rented out in violation of allotment conditions, officials said on Monday.

According to AUDA, the housing scheme comprises 266 residential units constructed at Koteshwar under the EWS category. The units were allotted through a draw process during 2021–22. The scheme is located in a rapidly developing area near Motera and is equipped with facilities such as lifts, CCTV surveillance, garden space, and solar power systems.

Officials said complaints were received that some allottees had given their flats on rent despite restrictions under the scheme rules. Following this, multiple inspection teams were formed to verify occupancy. A surprise inspection was carried out on Monday morning, covering all 266 flats across eight blocks of the housing scheme. During the inspection, authorities found that 33 flats had been rented out in violation of the allotment conditions.

AUDA has issued notices to the concerned allottees directing them to vacate the flats. Officials said that after the premises are vacated, further administrative action, including sealing of the units, will be taken as per rules.

The authority also stated that similar surprise inspections will continue in housing units allotted at concessional rates under various government schemes. Strict legal action will be taken against beneficiaries found violating allotment conditions or allowing illegal occupation, the AUDA Public Relations Officer said in a press release. DeshGujarat
