After LPG Carriers, Crude Oil Tanker ‘Jag Laadki’ Arrives at Mundra Port Amid West Asia Tensions
March 18, 2026
Mundra: After two LPG carrier vessels arrived in the past two days at Gujarat ports, today an Indian-flagged crude oil tanker, ‘Jag Laadki’, reached Mundra Port carrying around 80,886 metric tonnes of crude oil from Fujairah Port in the UAE.
The arrival of the vessel is being seen as significant amid the escalating conflict between the US-Israel alliance and Iran, which has raised concerns over crude oil and gas supplies following disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz.
The tanker Jag Laadki is 274.19 metres long with a beam of 50.04 metres. It has a deadweight tonnage of about 164,716 tonnes and a gross tonnage of nearly 84,735 tonnes.
Officials said the crude shipment from the UAE will support major Indian refineries, as such deliveries help maintain refinery operations and strengthen India’s energy security at a time when supply chains in West Asia are under pressure.
The development comes amid rising geopolitical tensions in the West Asia region affecting global maritime movement and energy trade.
Earlier, two Indian-flagged LPG carriers, MT Shivalik and MT Nanda Devi, safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz and reached India on March 16 and 17. The vessels were carrying a combined cargo of about 92,712 metric tonnes of LPG and had passed through the strategic waterway on March 13.
To protect commercial shipping and ensure safe passage of Indian vessels, the Indian Navy continues to maintain deployment in the region under Operation Sankalp. DeshGujarat
