High-Speed Elevated Corridor to Come Up on Surat – Navsari Road
March 20, 2026
Surat: Travel between Surat and Navsari via Sachin is set to become faster with the construction of a new high-speed elevated corridor on the Surat–Sachin–Navsari road. The bridge project on the four-lane highway will be taken up by the Gujarat government’s Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department at an estimated cost of ₹221.59 crore.
As per the tender document, the proposed elevated corridor will be built between km 13/4 and km 21/4, covering a stretch of around 8 km on the busy Surat–Sachin–Navsari section of State Highway-6, one of the most congested routes in South Gujarat. The project aims to ensure smoother traffic flow, reduce travel time, and ease frequent congestion between Surat and Navsari. The Roads and Buildings Department has issued a tender inviting bids for the work.
However, it appears that the tender may actually be limited to a 1.9-km elevated section between chainage 14/860 and 16/760, as the General Arrangement Drawing in the tender document mentions only this portion.
According to the tender document, the project is to be completed within 21 months, including the monsoon season, under the supervision of the State Roads and Buildings Department.
The project involves the construction of a multi-span elevated corridor bridge using modern engineering features such as Reinforced Earth (RE) walls and pile foundations of 1.20-metre diameter to ensure structural strength and durability.
Along with the elevated corridor, service roads, footpaths, and proper drainage systems will be developed to improve traffic management and pedestrian safety. Crash barriers and other road-safety infrastructure, as per prescribed standards, will also be installed along the corridor.
One of the key features of the project is the installation of a Bridge Health Monitoring System (BHMS). The bridge will be equipped with advanced instruments such as tri-axial accelerometers, strain gauges, and temperature sensors to monitor the structural condition and safety of the bridge round the clock.
The elevated corridor is expected to save significant travel time and fuel for thousands of motorists commuting daily between Surat, Sachin, and Navsari, while also supporting industrial and economic activity in the region.
Furthermore, this tender follows an earlier ₹310-crore project awarded by the Gujarat Roads and Buildings Department for strengthening and widening the Surat–Sachin–Navsari Road (SH-6) from chainage 13/400 to 30/360 km (working chainage 16/760 to 30/458, total 13.698 km) under the High-Speed Corridor Scheme. That project aims to improve regional connectivity and road safety by upgrading the existing corridor, while the proposed elevated corridor will further strengthen road infrastructure on this heavily used route.
