Kudasan – Por – Adalaj Road in Gandhinagar to Be Upgraded to Four-Lane White-Topping Method
March 23, 2026
Gandhinagar: The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) has decided to construct its first white-topping road using new technology to improve durability and reduce recurring damage during the monsoon. The civic body has approved a proposal to build a four-lane, 4.5-km-long road from Kudasan–Por–Adalaj using the white-topping method, and the standing committee has ratified the project. Officials have been instructed to complete the work before the next monsoon season.
So far, white-topping roads in Gandhinagar were built by the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department. The first such road in the city was constructed from Sargasan to Rakshashakti Circle, followed by work on the Koba–Adalaj link road. Now, for the first time, the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation itself will execute a white-topping road project.
Officials said asphalt roads often get damaged during the monsoon, leading to potholes and repeated repair work. To address this issue, the civic body has opted for white-topping technology, which is considered stronger and more durable. The method involves laying a concrete layer over the existing road, which increases the lifespan of the road and reduces maintenance costs.
The use of white-topping roads has been encouraged at the national level, and Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had also recommended adopting the technology in Gujarat. Following this, the state government approved the construction of white-topping roads in Gandhinagar at an estimated cost of around Rs 38 crore in earlier phases. DeshGujarat
