Petrol Pump Association Chief Debunks Fuel Shortage Rumors Amid Panic Buying Queues
March 23, 2026
Ahmedabad: Arvind Thakkar, President of the Petrol Pump Owners Association, has officially moved to quell rising panic among citizens following widespread rumors of a fuel shortage. For several hours today, long queues of vehicles have been seen at refueling stations throughout the city as citizens rushed to fill their tanks.
Clarification on Supply Addressing the situation directly, Thakkar emphasized that there is no disruption in the supply chain from either the government or oil companies. He clarified that the panic was likely triggered by a temporary lack of stock at only a handful of locations, which does not reflect the status of the city’s overall fuel infrastructure. According to Mr. Thakkar, out of the 210 petrol pumps in Ahmedabad, only three or four were briefly without fuel today, leading to the public misconception of a crisis.
Official Statement To reassure the public and discourage further panic, Arvind Thakkar issued the following statement (provided here in the original Gujarati):
“Brothers, for the last four to five hours today, lines have formed at every petrol pump in Ahmedabad for petrol and diesel. Truly, this is a rumor, and there is no problem from the government or oil companies regarding the supply of petrol and diesel; as much petrol and diesel as needed is available.
We have received no orders from the government or oil companies to sell petrol and diesel in smaller quantities. Looking at Ahmedabad, there are 210 petrol pumps, but because three or four petrol pumps did not have petrol today, this panic occurred.
Therefore, I request the public not to believe such rumors; we are going to get as much petrol and diesel as we need. In such a situation, we should not believe rumors and should not panic, and we humbly request that you give your support and cooperation to our petrol pump dealers. Thank you.”
The Association President confirmed that no directives have been issued to restrict or limit fuel sales. He urged the public to remain calm and not to believe social media rumors or misinformation. Citizens are requested to cooperate with local petrol pump dealers as they work to manage the surge in customers and return operations to a normal pace. DeshGujarat
