850 Bed ‘Rain Basera’ Built at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for Patients’ Relatives

Ahmedabad: A state-of-the-art 858-bed Rain Basera facility has been built at the Civil Hospital campus in Asarwa at a cost of about ₹60 crore to provide accommodation for relatives of patients coming for treatment from across Gujarat and other states.

Civil Hospital, one of the largest government hospitals in Asia, receives patients from across the country and abroad for complex surgeries and specialised treatment. Due to the lack of affordable accommodation nearby, many families were forced to stay on footpaths or in costly lodges. Now, this new multi-storey Rain Basera has been constructed to provide safe and affordable stay for attendants of patients.

The building has a basement, ground floor and eight floors, with a total built-up area of about 24,436 square metres. It includes dormitory facilities, toilets, locker rooms, reception area, TV room, ATM, and shops for daily needs. A canteen with seating capacity for about 280 persons and a modern kitchen have also been provided.

Parking space for 58 four-wheelers and 91 two-wheelers has been created in the basement to ease traffic congestion inside the hospital campus.

As per the official press release, Civil Hospital admits over one lakh patients every year, and the new facility will help poor and middle-class families get dignified accommodation while also reducing overcrowding in hospital corridors and premises. DeshGujarat
