Hit-and-Run on SG Highway: Car Hits Bike, Drags It Before Driver Flees

Ahmedabad: A serious road accident was reported on the Pakwan overbridge on SG Highway in Ahmedabad this afternoon, leaving a 47-year-old motorcyclist critically injured after being hit by a speeding car whose driver fled the scene.

The accident occurred when a Volkswagen car travelling from Thaltej towards Sarkhej rammed into injured Kamlesh Panchania’s motorcycle while he was crossing the overbridge. The impact was so severe that the two-wheeler got stuck in the front portion of the car.

The video of the incident has gone viral, showing that the driver did not stop after the collision and continued driving for some distance with the motorcycle lodged in the bonnet of the vehicle before fleeing the spot. The footage also shows the bike crushed into the car’s front engine area.

Panchania sustained serious injuries to his chest, back, head and forehead, and also suffered fractures in both legs. Passersby informed emergency services, following which he was taken to Sola Civil Hospital. He was later shifted to a private hospital due to his critical condition.

Traffic police have registered a case against the unidentified car driver and started an investigation. Officials said CCTV footage from the area and viral videos are being examined to identify the vehicle and trace the absconding driver. The incident has once again raised concerns over rash driving and hit-and-run cases on Ahmedabad’s highways. DeshGujarat
